On Oct. 15th, Prime Minister
Marek Belka's 5-month-old goverment won a second vote of confidence
in the Polish Parliament. Poland, a member of the '
coalition
of the willing', has continued to be a strong supporter
of the United States and the international '
war on terror'
In the wake of rampant corruption and the eventual resignation of
former stalinist hardliner, Leszek Miller, Mr. Belka is turning
Poland's flailing economy around. In his short five months as Prime
Minister, Belka has slowed inflation, reduced unemployment, expanded
the economy and strengthened the Polish
zloty against both
the Euro and US dollar.
Prime Minister Belka has pledged that Polish military forces will
remain in Iraq until they "
achieve our mission's goal: To
return Iraq to the Iraqi people and give security to the world".
Belka also affirmed the coalition's policy that forces would not
remain in Iraq "
an hour longer than reason dictates."
This is good news for Iraq and the United States. With the Iraqi
elections scheduled to be held in January 2005, this is no time
for the liberators of Iraq to waiver. So we thank Mr. Belka for
his support and raise our glasses in toast to his parliamentary
victory.
Nastrovia Mr. Belka,
nastrovia!
